Wright devotes a chapter to “The Modern Kitchen and Its Planning” where he highlights the importance of the kitchen. He comments that as an architect, the kitchen has always been his favorite room as it is “cherished with memories.” In addition to the memories he holds with his grandmother, he walks through the key components of planning a kitchen, and even maps out several different successful kitchen floor plans.

To say this is a guide for a successful homemaker is an understatement. Georgie Boynton Child’s novel is a true ‘how to’ on efficiency in the kitchen. Peeking into the fundamental guidelines of the kitchen can take away the chaos experienced today. By saving “time and energy due to awkward motions” it can be ensured the stacks of pots and pans are not constantly falling out of those old wooden cabinets. According to Child it is more than just organization and time management, but a technique of art as well as a form of science.
